Des-Asp1-[Ile8]-Angiotensin II is a peptide that has been shown to have analgesic effects. It has been reported to be active in anesthetized, Sprague-Dawley rats and in primary cultures of rat brain neurons. The peptide binds to the angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1) subtype and enhances the activity of the receptor when it is bound by angiotensin II. Des-Asp1-[Ile8]-Angiotensin II also inhibits aminopeptidase activity, leading to an increase in the concentration of angiotensin II. This leads to increased antinociception at high concentrations, which may be due to its effect on baroreceptors or mesenteric blood vessels.
