Tetraetilenglicole, noto anche come TEG, è un liquido incolore, inodore e igroscopico che appartiene alla classe dei glicoli polietilenici. È caratterizzato da un alto peso molecolare ed è comunemente usato come solvente, plastificante e nella formulazione di vari prodotti chimici. Tetraetilenglicole ha un punto di ebollizione relativamente alto e bassa volatilità, rendendolo adatto per applicazioni che richiedono stabilità termica. Mostra una buona solubilità in acqua e in molti solventi organici, il che ne aumenta l'utilità in vari processi industriali. Inoltre, il TEG ha un profilo di bassa tossicità, rendendolo più sicuro per l'uso in prodotti di consumo rispetto ad altri glicoli. La sua struttura chimica presenta più legami eterei, contribuendo alla sua natura idrofila e alla capacità di formare legami idrogeno. Tetraetilenglicole è spesso utilizzato nella produzione di tensioattivi, lubrificanti e come componente nelle formulazioni di antigelo.
