L'endotelina-3 (ET-3) è un potente peptide vasocostrittore che gioca un ruolo significativo in vari processi fisiologici, inclusi l'omeostasi vascolare e la regolazione della pressione sanguigna. Fa parte della famiglia delle endotelina, che consiste di tre isoforme: endotelina-1, endotelina-2 e endotelina-3. L'ET-3 è prodotto principalmente dalle cellule endoteliali e ha un'alta affinità per i recettori dell'endotelina, in particolare i recettori ETA e ETB, che sono recettori accoppiati a proteine G. Questo peptide è composto da 21 aminoacidi ed è caratterizzato dalla sua capacità di indurre contrazione del muscolo liscio e influenzare la proliferazione cellulare. Oltre ai suoi effetti cardiovascolari, l'endotelina-3 è coinvolta nella regolazione della funzione renale e ha implicazioni in varie condizioni patologiche, tra cui ipertensione e insufficienza cardiaca.
