Descrizione:
Solfato di paromomicina è un antibiotico aminoglicosidico utilizzato principalmente per trattare infezioni causate da alcuni tipi di batteri, in particolare nei casi di amebiasi intestinale e leishmaniosi. È derivato dal batterio Streptomyces griseus e funziona inibendo la sintesi proteica nei microrganismi suscettibili. Il composto è caratterizzato dalla sua capacità di legarsi alla subunità ribosomiale 30S, portando a una lettura errata dell'mRNA e, in ultima analisi, interrompendo la crescita batterica. La paromomicina viene tipicamente somministrata per via orale o parenterale, a seconda dell'infezione trattata. È nota per la sua tossicità relativamente bassa rispetto ad altri aminoglicosidi, sebbene possa comunque causare effetti collaterali come disturbi gastrointestinali e nefrotossicità in alcuni casi. La forma solfato ne migliora la solubilità in acqua, rendendola adatta per varie formulazioni. CAS:<p>Paromomycin sulfate is an antibiotic used for culture media to control bacterial contamination of mediums and other laboratory substances. Most Gram-negative bacteria strains are sensitive to paromomycin sulfate, showing a low sensitivity (â€10%) in Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Serratia marcescens. Paromomycin sulfate is also used in the treatment of colorectal cancer by blocking DNA synthesis through inhibition of protein synthesis in susceptible cells. This can result in reduced damage in colon tumor cells within the body, although it may have neurotoxic effects on brain tissue.
