Descrizione:
Mesilato di deferoxamina è un agente chelante utilizzato principalmente nel trattamento delle condizioni di sovraccarico di ferro, come quelle derivanti da trasfusioni di sangue ripetute in pazienti con condizioni come talassemia o anemia falciforme. È un composto solubile in acqua che forma complessi stabili con ioni ferrici, facilitando la loro escrezione dal corpo. La sostanza è derivata dal batterio *Streptomyces pilosus* ed è caratterizzata dalla sua capacità di legarsi selettivamente al ferro, riducendo così la sua tossicità e prevenendo danni agli organi. Mesilato di deferoxamina viene tipicamente somministrato per via sottocutanea o endovenosa, e la sua farmacocinetica prevede una rapida distribuzione e escrezione renale. CAS:Deferoxamine mesylate is an iron chelator that is used in the treatment of iron overload and to treat patients with chronic renal failure. Deferoxamine mesylate has been shown to inhibit angiogenesis by inhibiting the basic protein required for this process. It is also known to have a protective effect on myocardial cells, preventing cell death due to lack of oxygen (reactive oxygen species). Deferoxamine mesylate also inhibits neuronal death in a model system. Deferoxamine mesylate binds to DNA and inhibits RNA synthesis, which has led to its use as a fluorescence probe for the detection of DNA binding activity.
