Cloridrato di difenidramina è un antistaminico comunemente usato per alleviare i sintomi di allergia, febbre da fieno e raffreddore comune. È classificato come un antistaminico di prima generazione, il che significa che può attraversare la barriera ematoencefalica, portando spesso a effetti sedativi. La struttura chimica della difenidramina include un gruppo di difenilmetanolo, contribuendo alle sue proprietà farmacologiche. Agisce principalmente come un antagonista del recettore H1 dell'istamina, riducendo così gli effetti dell'istamina nel corpo. It has been used in the treatment of allergic reactions and bowel disease. The drug has shown no significant adverse effects in humans at doses up to 100 mg/day. Diphenhydramine is also used as an antiemetic, for motion sickness, and for other indications. It is available over the counter and by prescription. Side effects include dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, difficulty urinating, and sleepiness.
