Descrizione:
Paclitaxel, con il numero CAS 33069-62-4, è un prodotto naturale complesso e un agente chemioterapico utilizzato principalmente nel trattamento di vari tipi di cancro, tra cui cancro ovarico, al seno e ai polmoni. È derivato dalla corteccia dell'albero di tasso del Pacifico (Taxus brevifolia) ed è classificato come un taxano. Paclitaxel funziona stabilizzando i microtubuli e prevenendo la loro depolimerizzazione, il che interrompe il normale processo di divisione cellulare, portando infine all'apoptosi nelle cellule tumorali. Il composto è caratterizzato dalla sua struttura unica, che include un sistema ad anello di taxano e diversi gruppi funzionali che contribuiscono alla sua attività biologica. Paclitaxel viene tipicamente somministrato per via endovenosa e ha una solubilità relativamente bassa in acqua, richiedendo spesso formulazioni con solventi come Cremophor EL per uso clinico. I suoi effetti collaterali possono includere neutropenia, reazioni di ipersensibilità e neuropatia periferica.
