Nabumetone è un farmaco antinfiammatorio non steroideo (FANS) utilizzato principalmente per il trattamento dell'osteoartrite e dell'artrite reumatoide. È caratterizzato dalle sue proprietà analgesiche e antinfiammatorie, che sono attribuite alla sua capacità di inibire le enzimi cicloossigenasi (COX), riducendo così la sintesi delle prostaglandine coinvolte nell'infiammazione e nel dolore. Nabumetone è unico tra i FANS in quanto è un pro-farmaco, il che significa che viene metabolizzato nel fegato nella sua forma attiva, acido 6-metossinaftilacetico. Questa conversione metabolica consente una potenzialmente minore incidenza di effetti collaterali gastrointestinali rispetto ai FANS tradizionali.
