Lattulosio è un disaccaride sintetico composto da fruttosio e galattosio, utilizzato principalmente come lassativo e nel trattamento dell'encefalopatia epatica. È un liquido incolore o giallo chiaro, viscoso e solubile in acqua, il che ne facilita la somministrazione. Lattulosio non viene assorbito nel tratto gastrointestinale, il che gli consente di esercitare i suoi effetti attirando acqua nel colon, ammorbidendo le feci e promuovendo i movimenti intestinali.
