Cesium carbonate also promotes O-alkylation of alcohols to give mixed alkyl carbonates and has been used extensively in Suzuki, Heck and Sonogashira coupling reactions. Cesium carbonate finds also application in energy conversion devices such as photovoltaic cells. Efficiency of inverted polymer solar cells has been shown to increase when cesium carbonate is used as a component of the electron collecting layer.
