2-Amino-5-methylthiazole is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of two different types of cyclooxygenase, COX-1 and COX-2, in vitro. 2-Amino-5-methylthiazole also has shown antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.
