Samario è un elemento metallico di colore bianco argenteo classificato come un lantano nella tavola periodica, con il numero atomico 62. È relativamente stabile nell'aria e non si ossida facilmente, anche se può reagire con acqua e acidi per formare idrossido di Samario e sali di Samario.
