Phthalic acid is a chemical compound that is used in wastewater treatment. It is also used as an intermediate for the production of other chemicals. Phthalic acid has been shown to inhibit the activity of the ryanodine receptor, which is a protein found on the surface of muscle cells that regulates calcium uptake and release.
