    1-(Methylamino)adamantane is a dopamine receptor ligand that has been shown to be neuroprotective in rodent models of ischemia-reperfusion injury. 1-(Methylamino)adamantane exhibits high affinity for the D2 subtype, with potency and efficacy that are comparable to those of dopamine. It also acts as an agonist at the D1 and D3 receptors, although it displays weaker binding affinity than dopamine. The neuroprotective effects of 1-(methylamino)adamantane have been demonstrated in wild-type mice following ischemia-reperfusion injury, but not in animals with a mutant form of the gene encoding dopamine receptors. These findings suggest that 1-(methylamino)adamantane may be able to provide protection against ischemia-reperfusion injury by acting on downstream pathways such as protein kinase C or nitric oxide synthase.
