Descrizione

Avibactam is a non-beta-lactam beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents the formation of beta-lactamases, and thus extends the spectrum of beta-lactams. It is active against Gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecium. Avibactam has been shown to be effective in inhibiting polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of bacterial targets, such as 16S ribosomal RNA, DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. This drug also inhibits the synthesis of antimicrobial peptides by human macrophages and can be used as an antimicrobial agent for infectious diseases with clinical relevance.
