m-Tolidine is an organic compound that belongs to the group of hydrocarbons. It is a colorless liquid with a characteristic odor and is soluble in water, ether, and chloroform. m-Tolidine has been used as an osmotic agent, polymerization catalyst, and chemical reagent. It also has been used in electrochemical methods to generate high values of current.
M-tolidine hydrolyzes rapidly to form acetaldehyde when it reacts with strong bases such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide.
