2,2',6,6'-Tetra-tert-butyl-4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl is an organic chemical that is used as a phenolic antioxidant in automotive lubricants. It can be used to protect the rubber from oxidation and cracking due to thermal aging and exposure to ozone. 2,2',6,6'-Tetra-tert-butyl-4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl has been shown to have a kinetic effect on the rate of reactions by accepting electrons from a reaction partner. 2,2',6,6'-Tetra-tert-butyl-4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl binds with the acceptor molecule through an electrostatic interaction or hydrogen bonding. This leads to an increase of the rate of electron transfer and thus increases the reaction rate.
