Piperoxan hydrochloride is a pharmacologic agent. It is used for the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, as well as for diagnostic purposes. Piperoxan hydrochloride has been shown to cause an increase in systolic blood pressure by acting on the adrenergic receptors in the rostral ventrolateral medulla. In addition, it increases diastolic blood pressure by acting on the beta-adrenergic receptors. This drug also has pressor effects that are due to its ability to stimulate dopamine release from nerve endings in the hypothalamus and brainstem.
