Fenchlorphos is a pesticide that is used in analytical methods for the detection of infectious diseases. It can be prepared as an aqueous solution with sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid. Fenchlorphos has been shown to have sublethal doses for different organisms, including bacteria, fungi, and nematodes. It also has been shown to inhibit the enzyme activity of fatty acid synthase and certain types of dehydrogenases, which are important for metabolic rate. Fenchlorphos has been shown to have analogs such as fenitrothion and fensulfothion. These analogs are more stable than fenchlorphos because they contain anhydrous sodium instead of water in their chemical structure.
