5-Heptylbenzene-1,3-diol is a cannabimimetic compound that is structurally related to the cannabinoid Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC). It has been shown to have cannabimimetic effects in animals and humans. 5-Heptylbenzene-1,3-diol binds to the CB1 receptor with high affinity and selectivity. It has been shown to induce hypomotility in mice at higher doses by binding selectively to CB1 receptors. The biosynthesis of 5-heptylbenzene-1,3-diol has been studied in genetically modified fungus and mutant enzymes have been identified.
