Methyl acetylsalicylate is an analog of the salicylate compound with a methyl group at the 2 position. Methyl acetylsalicylate can be synthesized by reacting benzoic acid with acetyl chloride and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid. The reaction solution can be diluted with water to a viscosity that is suitable for injection into a human body. Methyl acetylsalicylate has been shown to have cytosolic calcium-modulating effects, which may help to prevent Alzheimer's disease by inhibiting the production of amyloid beta peptides in the brain.
