N-Acetyl-o-phenetidine is an analog of phenetidine that has homologous properties. It is a depressant drug that binds to the acetanilide site on the GABA receptor, which causes an increase in chloride ion influx and depresses neuronal activity. N-Acetyl-o-phenetidine has been shown to inhibit uptake in rats and increase the amide resonance at 3.2 ppm in 1H NMR spectroscopy. The oral toxicity of this drug is low, with the LD50 being >2000 mg/kg in rats. N-Acetyl-o-phenetidine has also been shown to have some nucleophilic properties, as it can react with boronic acids and difluorides to form carbonyl intermediates.
