4-Octanol is a hydration agent that is used to prevent the formation of gels in emulsions. It has an isomeric structure with four hydroxyl groups. 4-Octanol reacts with the covid-19 pandemic virus, inhibiting its ability to infect cells and replicate. The reaction mechanism of 4-octanol with the covid-19 pandemic virus is not yet fully understood, but it may involve a supercritical phase equilibrium. 4-Octanol also has an adsorption mechanism that can be used for removing organic compounds from water. This compound is a dipole, meaning that it has both a negative and positive end. A molecule of 4-octanol will have one end attracted to polar solvents such as water and another end attracted to nonpolar solvents such as oil. This property allows it to be used as an immobilized phase extraction agent for separating organic compounds from water or other polar solvents.
