8-Nitronaphthalen-2-amine is an aromatic amine that is a derivative of 2-naphthylamine. It has been shown to yield products that are important in the synthesis of diazo compounds, such as nitrobenzene and phenol. 8-Nitronaphthalen-2-amine reacts with chromium trioxide in the presence of hydrochloric acid to form crystalline chromium(III) chloride. The reaction can also be used to produce sulphates from sulphate salts, such as potassium sulphate. 8-Nitronaphthalen-2-amine can also react with nitric acid to form nitrates, which are used extensively in the production of fertilizers and explosives. This compound is also able to undergo condensation reactions with formaldehyde or acetaldehyde.
