2-Carboxyphenylglycine is a compound that can be synthesized by reacting ethylene diamine with sodium carbonate and hydrochloric acid. It is a white, crystalline solid that has been used as a reagent for the synthesis of polyvinyl pyrrolidone. 2-Carboxyphenylglycine has shown potential to inhibit the growth of bacteria in proton-treated environments. This compound has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in animal models, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
