3,3',5,5'-Tetra-tert-butyl-4,4'-stilbenequinone is a yellow solid that is soluble in acetone and alcohol. It has an ophthalmic use as a topical agent for the treatment of eye infections. 3,3',5,5'-Tetra-tert-butyl-4,4'-stilbenequinone has been shown to have an antioxidant effect on the cell membrane by preventing lipid peroxidation. This compound also has a high quantum yield and is photoactive at temperatures between 10°C and 30°C. 3,3',5,5'-Tetra-tert-butyl-4,4'-stilbenequinone undergoes photolysis and forms two dimers when exposed to light with wavelengths between 310 and 400 nm.
