2-(4-Methylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole is a thiolation and selenation agent that has been used as a catalyst for the synthesis of c-h bonds. It can also be used as a catalyst in the synthesis of oxadiazoles. 2-(4-Methylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole can be prepared by reacting 4-methylbenzaldehyde with chlorotrimethylsilane. This product has been shown to promote the formation of C-H bonds in certain organic reactions and is used as a catalyst in the synthesis of oxadiazoles.
