- 1,1'-(Sulfanediyldiethane-1,1-Diyl)Dibenzene
Di(±-phenylethyl) Sulfide is a polysulfide that is produced by the reaction of styrene and elemental sulfur. It has been shown to react with benzene and deuterium, although no intermediates have been observed in these reactions. The polysulfides are chiral, which means they can exist as two different forms that are mirror images of each other. This property leads to stereochemical effects, such as kinetic and isotope effects. Due to its high reactivity, polysulfides undergo rapid polymerization under typical reaction conditions. However, it has been found that this process can be slowed by lowering the temperature or adding an inert solvent like hexane.
