It is also used to produce diazoacetate, which is then converted to benzene and acid yields. Rel-(1R,2S)-2-Phenylcyclopropanecarboxylic Acid is produced by the photochemistry reaction between xylene and exciplexes formed from ethyl diazoacetate and radiation from scifinder irradiation.
