2-Amino-3,5-dinitro-6-methylpyridine is a platelet inhibitor that inhibits the uptake of benzene and other volatile organic compounds into human platelets. It has been shown to inhibit the uptake of benzene and other volatile organic compounds into human platelets. 2-Amino-3,5-dinitro-6-methylpyridine is also an inhibitor of pyridine nucleotide transhydrogenase, which catalyzes the conversion of 3,4 dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) to 3,4 dihydroxyacetophenone (DOPAC). 2-Amino-3,5-dinitro-6 methylpyridine is bioisosteric with phenyl groups found in many drugs. In addition, it can act as an exchanger by binding to acidic molecules such as pyrazine.
