2-Amino-6-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-phenylpyridine-3-carbonitrile is a phenylpyridine derivative that is an effective antimicrobial agent against e. faecalis and other Gram-positive microorganisms. It has been shown to be active against the growth of e. coli and some Gram-negative bacteria and fungi. 2APC inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the enzyme DNA gyrase, thereby inhibiting transcription and replication of DNA. 2APC also shows antifungal activity against various strains of Candida albicans as well as Coccidioides immitis, a fungus that causes coccidioidomycosis (valley fever).
