4-Chloro-1,1-dioxidotetrahydrothiophen-3-yl acetate is an alkyl substituent that has an acidic nature. It is stable in the absence of air and moisture, but will react with strong oxidizing agents. This compound has a chloro group and can be used to make other compounds such as acyl chlorides and chlorinated derivatives. 4-Chloro-1,1-dioxidotetrahydrothiophen-3-yl acetate also reacts with benzoyl chloride to form the corresponding substituted phenol. 4-Chloro-1,1-dioxidotetrahydrothiophen-3-yl acetate can be used to make ethers or carbonates by reacting with alcohols or carbon dioxide respectively.
