Descrizione

LYSO-PC 24:0 is a long-chain fatty acid that is used as a diagnostic marker for X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy. It is found in the cerebral and fatty tissues of infants with this disease, but not in healthy children. The LYSO-PC 24:0 concentration in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) correlates with the degree of demyelination and has been shown to be a reliable indicator of the disease's severity. LYSO-PC 24:0 can also be used as an indirect marker for death in infants.
Lysophosphatidylcholine (LYSO-PC) is a major phospholipid component of human plasma membranes. It is synthesized from choline by cell membrane enzyme phospholipase A2, which cleaves off one fatty acid from glycerophosphorylcholine to form LYSO-PC.
