Di-p-tolylphosphine is a hydrogen bond donor that reacts with amides to form amine products. It has been shown to be an efficient method for the synthesis of amines, without the need for an organic solvent. Di-p-tolylphosphine has also been used in control experiments and as a reagent in solid-phase synthesis. It is found in isomeric mixtures, which have different reactivity properties. Phenolphthalein can be used as a probe of disrupted hydrogen bonds by monitoring the fluorescence intensity of di-p-tolylphosphine. This chemical is also used to study biomolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids.
