2-Naphthalenol is a naphthalene derivative that is used as a building block in the synthesis of merocyanine dyes. It forms crystalline adducts with many organic compounds, and it has been shown to interact with both alkylating agents and phosphorus oxychloride. 2-Naphthalenol can be converted through a tautomeric mechanism to the corresponding methides, which are catalytically active. The mechanistic study of its catalytic asymmetric synthesis was elucidated by an aminative reaction. A synthetic approach for 2-naphthalenol was developed using iron catalyst.
