H-Lys(dnp)-OH is an amino acid that is a precursor to the amino acid lysine. It is used as a reagent in protease assays and can be used to determine the susceptibility of an animal to proteolytic enzymes. The enzyme hydrochloric acid cleaves H-Lys(dnp)-OH into two molecules of lysine, releasing hydrogen chloride gas in the process.
