1-Chloro-4-(methoxymethyl)benzene is an organic compound with the chemical formula CHClO. It is a chlorinated benzene, which is a colorless liquid with a pleasant odor. It has been used as a fungicide and solvent. 1-Chloro-4-(methoxymethyl)benzene can be prepared by reacting methoxybenzene with chlorine gas in the presence of a catalyst such as copper chloride, copper sulfate, or zinc chloride. The reaction can also be achieved by heating chlorobenzene with methanol at 200°C for 3 hours. The reaction is accompanied by the release of hydrogen chloride gas and water vapor.
