Benzyl(prop-2-yn-1-yl)amine is a drug that inhibits the activity of p450 enzymes. It has been shown to inhibit the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor in rat liver microsomes, and this inhibition is irreversible. Benzyl(prop-2-yn-1-yl)amine has also been shown to have inhibitory properties on locomotor activity in animals, with no effect on dopamine levels. This drug can be used as a pharmaceutical preparation for treating Parkinson's disease. The n-oxide form of benzyl(prop-2-yn-1-yl)amine has been shown to have antihypertensive activity in rats by inhibiting the enzyme pargyline.
