Tin(II)sulfide is a compound of tin and sulfide, with the formula SnS. Tin(II)sulfide is a semiconductor that can be used as a model system for surface methodology because it has high resistance to hydrochloric acid (HCl). It is also used in the synthesis of other compounds, such as ethylene diamine. Tin(II)sulfide has been shown to emit light when it is heated by laser ablation and its thermal expansion coefficient is similar to that of silicon dioxide. The optical sensor that detects the light emission depends on the wavelength of light and can be tuned over a large range.
