Descrizione

Thiourea is a compound that is structurally similar to urea, except that one of the oxygen atoms in the molecule has been replaced by sulfur. It has been used as a pharmaceutical agent and animal feed supplement. Thiourea inhibits the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting protein synthesis at the ribosome level. This inhibition of protein synthesis induces apoptosis in cells and inhibits endothelial cell proliferation. Thiourea also has an inhibitory effect on chloride-induced gastric cancer, with no obvious adverse side effects on normal tissues. It is effective at physiological levels and can be taken orally or intravenously.
