Alpha-cyclodextrin is a synthetic molecule that can be found in high-density lipoproteins. FTIR spectroscopy has shown that alpha-cyclodextrin hydrate is hydrated and has intramolecular hydrogen bonds. Alpha-cyclodextrin hydrate adsorbs to hydroxyapatite, which is a calcium phosphate mineral found in bone. It also binds to the surface of cell walls, thereby preventing the passage of molecules through the membrane. This molecule forms supramolecular complexes with other molecules and has a linear response to pH. The flow rate of alpha-cyclodextrin hydrate is affected by temperature and pressure.
