2-Isopropylnaphthalene is a compound that can be used in the production of perfumes. When reacting with metal hydroxides, it undergoes elimination reactions to produce urea and oxygen nucleophiles. The formation rate of 2-isopropylnaphthalene is optimal at a temperature of 150°C and pressure of 7.5 atmospheres. It is also possible to react this compound with piperonyl butoxide, which produces alveolar type fatty acids and chloride. The reaction mechanism for 2-isopropylnaphthalene involves an elimination reaction, where the carbon atom and hydrogen atoms are eliminated from the molecule by the addition of heat. This process starts with the formation of a carbocation intermediate, which then reacts with an oxygen nucleophile to create water as the final product.
