Pasiniazid is an antimicrobial agent that is used to treat bowel disease and autoimmune diseases. It is also used as prophylaxis against opportunistic fungal infections in patients with AIDS. Pasiniazid is chemically stable and has a high resistance against bacterial strains, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of human pathogens such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae type b, Neisseria meningitidis, and Moraxella catarrhalis. Pasiniazid can be quantified using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique.
