4-Benzylresorcinol is a x-ray data, chemical ionization, resonance mass, molecular target, strategies, dihydroxybenzyl, supramolecular, β-amino acid, synthetic derivative. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the enzyme xanthine oxidase (XO), which plays an important role in the production of uric acid and other reactive oxygen species. 4-Benzylresorcinol also inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting protein synthesis. 4-Benzylresorcinol can be used as a lead compound for the development of new drugs that inhibit xanthine oxidase. This drug has been shown to have pharmacokinetic properties similar to those of other benzyl derivatives and is able to cross the blood brain barrier.
