2-Pentadecanone is a sesquiterpene lactone that is found in the essential oils of plants such as parsley, cumin, and coriander. 2-Pentadecanone shows high insect resistance, which may be due to its ability to disrupt their odorant binding sites. It can also be used for the sample preparation of squamous carcinoma cells. The human metabolism of 2-pentadecanone has been studied and it has been found to have an inhibitory effect on methyl ketones and fatty acid synthesis. This compound also has a high resistance against bacteria and fungi.
