2-Methyl-9H-fluoren-9-one is a carbazole that can be prepared from either benzoyl chloride or amide. It is a yellow crystalline solid that can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other compounds. 2-Methyl-9H-fluoren-9-one is also used to produce maturation and sequence of carbazoles, and this compound has been shown to catalyze the alkylation reaction of benzamide in liquid chromatography. This process is carried out at constant temperatures (usually 0°C) and at chloride concentrations of 10% in order to prevent hydrolysis. The reaction proceeds systematically and linearly with time.
