2-Chloro-3-phenylquinoline (CPQ) is an electroluminescent material that can be used as a light emitting diode (LED) component. It is synthesized by nitroalkane reduction of 2-chloro-3-phenylquinoline, which is then dehydrated to form CPQ. The compound has been shown to have anticancer activity and exhibits cytotoxic effects on cancer cells in vitro. This effect may be due to the inhibition of DNA synthesis by CPQ. CPQ also inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi by inhibiting their nucleophilic or hydrophobic properties.
