3-Phenylpyrazin-2(1H)-one is a compound that has been identified as an inhibitor of the enzyme dihydrothiazine reductase. It has been shown to have activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhimurium, and Escherichia coli. The reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) analytical method for this compound was developed in order to differentiate it from cefaclor, which is structurally similar. This compound may be used in the treatment of bacterial infections such as pneumonia or urinary tract infections.
