Ethyl 2-amino-4-methylpentanoate is a pharmaceutical drug that inhibits the production of angiotensin II. It is used to treat high blood pressure and other conditions such as congestive heart failure, kidney disease, and lupus erythematosus. The inhibitory activity of this compound has been demonstrated in a number of tissues including human erythrocytes, rat liver homogenates, and porcine brain synaptosomes. Ethyl 2-amino-4-methylpentanoate is an enantiomeric mixture with a stereoselective inhibitory effect on the enzyme angiotensin I converting enzyme (ACE). This inhibition leads to decreased synthesis of angiotensin II and consequently reduced blood pressure.
