3-(3-Hydroxy-5-methylisoxazol-4-yl)-DL-alanine (3HMI) is a chemical compound that is used in biological studies to investigate the function of neurons. 3HMI has been shown to affect the physiological effects of neurons and their survival, as well as having an effect on synaptic transmission in rat models. 3HMI also affects voltage-dependent calcium channels and locomotor activity in rats. 3HMI has been shown to cause neuronal death in a concentration dependent manner at concentrations higher than 1 mM. It also inhibits synaptic transmission by decreasing the amount of α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on the postsynaptic membrane.br>br>
